Strong to the Finish

An amazing DVD set is coming out honoring the greatest cartoon character ever (in my humble opinion) - Popeye!

I spent many afternoons glued to the TV watching old Popeye shorts in reruns on a local independent TV station with my Dad. If only Dad were here to watch these restored to all their glory...

Hi Trish. I'm glad you have such great memories of your dad and Popeye. I grew up and live in the home of Popeye the Sailor, Chester, Illinois. As you may or may not know the creator of Popeye was Elsie Segar. Elsie grew up in Chester and many of the original characters of the Thimble Theater strip were of people he knew or worked with in Chester. Each year in Chester we have a celebration of Popeye and his friends. This year is our 30th year which always takes place the weekend after Labor Day. This year it is the 11th thru the 13th of September. I have been a trustee of the Popeye Picnic committee for the last 5 years. We have tried to make this picnic a family celebration with free entertainment, food, carnival rides, parade and many attractions for all ages. I'd like to invite you and your family to join us in celebrating one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time. We have begun a character trail in Chester of all of the Popeye characters and will be installing the fourth at this years picnic. Please come join us and our families for a weekend of fun and entertainment. For more information go to out web site. http://www.popeyepicnic.com/
